Georgetown Reflections 2014

Georgetown Reflections:

I want you to think about your time in Georgetown. What were some of the things you really enjoyed? Was there anything about the trip you didn't like? Try and include things that you thought about, felt, smelled, heard, saw, etc. You will use this information to help you plan a Personal Narrative about your time in Georgetown during writing, so the more you can include here, the easier your writing will become. Try and use great word choice, and be as descriptive as possible! Please also be aware of your spelling and grammar. If a word is underlined in red, it is spelled wrong, fix it!

  1. I enjoyed riding the train. First, sense I was dressed for the weather I was not cold. Next, I loved having the crisp cold air blow against my face. Also, I liked seeing the water rush against the big rocks. Plus riding over the bridge was awesome because even though it felt scary I knew I was safe.
The only sound I heard was the sound of the wind. I felt happy as I was sitting on the train bench as if I had all the time in the world to be there.

  2. Some of the things I saw and enjoyed on the Georgetown field trip are: I really enjoyed the train ride around the Georgetown loop. I enjoyed it because I saw some really amazing scenery on the ride. I also loved the mine tour. I loved it because we were able to go inside a mine and touch actual petrified miners snot!
(Okay, the miners snot was gross, but still, it was fun.) Some things I did not like were: It was extremely cold. also, it rained a little bit. But other than that, it was very Awe bringing.

  3. I loved the silver mine. I learned a lot about the silver mine I learned a new thing
about the mine there was a thing called a tommyknocker. The tommy knocker is a
ghost that it makes loud noises like 2 pieces of wood knocking together it is really really loud. That is why I like the silver mine.

  4. Some things that I enjoyed were the mine, because I liked seeing the lunch room and the old entrance, and green water. Also I liked the manger office because I could see all the old pictures and desk and other antics. I also, thought that the train was amazing, what I smelled was nature and trees, what I heard was toot toot of the train. I really enjoyed everything and there was nothing I didn't like. I was an amazingly fun field trip that I will never forget!!!!!!

  5. I think Georgetown was awesome. My favorite part was the mine I learn a lot of new things it was fun when we got to stick our hand in the mud. My second favorite part was the train I learned a lot of facts when I was on the train. My least favorite part was the tommyknockers for some reason I just don’t like tommyknockers.

  6. In Georgetown I really enjoyed the mine and all the cool stuff in it. Some cool things were how if the lights went out the miners could feel the current and what ever way the water flowed that was the way out. So they always knew how to get out, incase they needed it Also i liked how the miners made holes to put the explosives in to get the silver. They would take this long metal stick and a sledgehammer and one of the miners would hold it well the other hit it and every time he hit the metal stick the other miner would twist the stick.
Also there are something called a tomenoker. Tommyknockers are spirits in the mine. Every time you heard a sound it was considered a tommyknocker.
I enjoyed every part of the mine there was nothing i didn't like everything was great it was a great experience. And I hope I can go again some day.

  7. I liked when we went on the train, but I don’t like that the
seats were wet. I also didn’t like that it was cold. The silver mine was cool and cold. It was 40 degrees in there. The old silver
mine entrance was awesome. They said that the reason the water
was green is that the miners wiped there boogers on the rock that was under water. Over all the field trip to Georgetown was . . .
    AWESOME!!!!!! (:

  8. I enjoyed going through the silver mine. Even if it was cold and we had to wear helmets and a lot of other layers. It was really fun to explore a mine that is not running anymore and that was used a long long time ago. I also liked all the stories that the leader told us about. I especially liked the stories about the tommyknockers even though they aren't real. Well at least thats what I think. But it really was a good time in the silver mine in Georgetown USA/COLORADO.

  9. Some things I really enjoyed in Georgetown was riding the train and going across the bridge. kinda like were sitting on a flying bench. I saw someone stick there head out the and say I believe I can fly. When there was a slight breeze it was like a lion roared in my face. I also liked the mine where there was rocks crunching beneath peoples feet and it smelled like the ocean. Only one thing that could have been better was THE TEMPERATURE It was freezIng like jumping in a river on an 80% below 0 day brr.

  10. What I liked about our trip is all of it besides standing out in the rain and I smelled a lot of dirt and grass plus water and sweat. I felt really good on the bus and on the train and the night before. Finally when lunch came I was sooooo relieved and sooooo happy since I was so hungry I ate my whole lunch. and my most favorite part was the mine it got so scary when we got to the lunch room where there was a chainlink fence there and it went on and on when I looked down and it was very dark and it was so fun and cool when we got to leave our hand prints in the sand and the water was so cold but I kept my hand in the sand until I saw my handprint there and it felt like my hands were like ice and it felt like i had my hands in snow for a hour so that was my favorite part of the field trip.

  11. I liked all of it especially the mine tour. I thought it was cool to see how the miners used to make the dynamite holes. I also liked how we saw how they would get silver out of deep holes. I also learned a lot of things like how they silver out of the rock. Then we saw how they got lite in the mine. I also did not now copper made water turn green. one of my favorite things was when he showed us the silver. When we got out of the mine it looked so much lighter.

After he told us about their light source it was a very dim candle we got to see their lunch boxes there were three spots for food.We also got to see mining tools we also got to feel the calcite it is so smooth as soon as we got out we took off our mining helmets and then we left the Silver Plume Mine.

  13. When I got off the train ride and finally got back on my feet and started walking forward I saw a mine. The entrance to the mine had danger signs on it I thought I was going to go in there but when the tourist came she told us we were not going in there, We went to a much safer mine…

At the entrance to the safer mine me and my classmates had to put hard hats on for safety. When I got in there it got much colder I was freezing even know I was wearing to cotes!!! As I entered the mine I saw a stream heading to the entrance, which was the exit when I got in the mine! Are to rest suddenly stopped us there was a blocked entrance with water in it. Are tourist told us that we could make a handprint in the stream and once people were mining there and the mine flooded! As we moved on we went into a dark room. The tourist told us that back then people used candles to mine and I shivered when he said this he said in the mine if someone heard a sound the couldn't explained they said it was a ghost but they called it a tommyknocker… Soon after and we went out of the mine and headed for the train and I found some of my friends one of them gave me a rock from the mine and it was pretty interesting, It was black and white and very interesting and I keeped it and I wish I had stayed there longer.

  14. The thing that buzzed me during the Georgetown field trip was the mine. We had to wear a helmet. Once I got in the mine everyone was cold but no one cared. We had to stop like a dozen times before we got to the exciting part the lunch spot were they eat the bread and throw the crust part to the tommyknockers. There were slime against the wall it was disgusting but awesome. The field trip to Georgetown was awesome. It was an adventure waiting to happen.
